The 1997 Nebraska Cornhuskers football team represented the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the 1997 NCAA Division I-A football season. The team was coached by Tom Osborne and played their home games in Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Nebraska won their third national championship in four seasons, but this one was shared with Michigan, a member of Nebraska's current conference, the Big Ten Conference.

As well as winning a share of the national title, they won the Big 12 Championship Game for the first time. Overall it was their 42nd Big 12 title (sixth in the last seven years), including championships won when the conference was known as the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association and later the Big Eight Conference.

From 1994-1997, the Tom Osbourne-led Nebraska Cornhuskers embarked on one of college football's most impressive four-year performances. At the end of that four-year tour, and three National Championships later (1994, 1995 and 1997), the University stood at 49-2. Osbourne retired after the 1997 season with an all-time record of 255-49-3. Topping the item are seven cubic zirconia, which are set within a raised "1" motif atop a red stone. Lettering surrounding the synthetic gemstones reads, "1997 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP." "LONDON / 49-2 / 1994-1997" is exhibited in raised relief on one side of the band, and the opposing shank features "1973-1997" with an engraved image of Coach Osbourne and the record of "255 / 49 / 3" also displayed.
