The 2024-25 Florida Panthers season was the 31st season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established in 1993. The Panthers entered the season as the defending Stanley Cup champions having defeated the Edmonton Oilers in seven games in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final.

On April 5, 2025, the Panthers clinched a playoff spot for the sixth straight season following the Columbus Blue Jackets loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In the playoffs, the Panthers defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games in the first round, defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs in seven games in the second round, defeated the Carolina Hurricanes in five games in the Eastern Conference finals, and made the 2025 Stanley Cup Final for the third consecutive season where they defeated the Edmonton Oilers in six games in a rematch of the previous Stanley Cup Final. The Panthers scored 94 playoff goals, the 4th most by a team in NHL history, behind only the 1985 Oilers, 1981 Islanders, and 1991 Penguins, all of whom played in an era of high-scoring offense in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Members of the Panthers watch as the Stanley Cup championship banner is raised into the rafters at Amerant Bank Arena before the home opener against the Boston Bruins.
With an average of 19,059, the Panthers drew the fifth-highest average home league attendance in the 2024-25 NHL season.

The 2015 Stanley Cup Final, commonly known as the 2015 Stanley Cup Finals, was the championship series of the National Hockey League (NHL) 2014-15 season, and the culmination of the 2015 Stanley Cup playoffs. This was the 122nd year of the Stanley Cup's presentation. The Western Conference champion Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Eastern Conference champion Tampa Bay Lightning four games to two to win their sixth championship in franchise history, and their third title in six seasons. The Lightning, as the club with the better regular-season record, held home-ice advantage in the series. The best-of-seven series was played in a 2-2-1-1-1 format, with Tampa Bay hosting games one, two, five and seven; and Chicago hosting games three, four and six. Tyler Johnson and Patrick Kane led the 2015 Stanley Cup playoffs in points scored with 23 points each. The series started June 3 and ended on June 15.

This was Chicago's third Final appearance in six seasons; they won the Cup in both 2010 and 2013. This was their 13th appearance overall, and they were seeking their 6th overall Cup championship.

The Blackhawks entered the 2014 off-season after being eliminated in the Conference Finals in seven games by the eventual 2014 Cup champion Los Angeles Kings. Major free agent acquisitions during the offseason included center Brad Richards and winger Daniel Carcillo from the Rangers. Approaching the NHL trade deadline in early March, Chicago traded for defenseman Kimmo Timonen from the Philadelphia Flyers, center Antoine Vermette from the Arizona Coyotes, and center Andrew Desjardins from the San Jose Sharks.

Chicago finished in third place in the Central Division, earning 102 points (48 wins, 28 losses, and 6 overtime losses). Goalie Corey Crawford tied the Canadiens' Carey Price as the William M. Jennings Trophy recipient for allowing a League-low 189 goals during the regular season.

In the playoffs, the Blackhawks eliminated the Nashville Predators in six games, swept the Minnesota Wild, and defeated the Anaheim Ducks in the Conference Finals in seven games. The Blackhawks entered the Finals as the favorites due to their championship experience.

The 2016 Stanley Cup Finals was the championship series of the National Hockey League (NHL)'s 2015-16 season, and the culmination of the 2016 Stanley Cup playoffs. This was the 123rd year of the Stanley Cup's presentation. The Eastern Conference champion Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Western Conference champion San Jose Sharks four games to two to win their fourth championship in franchise history (all of them on the road). The Penguins had home ice advantage in the series, being the club with the better regular season record. The series began on May 30, 2016 and concluded on June 12, 2016. This was the first Stanley Cup Final since 2007 to feature a team making their first appearance in the Finals in their club history.

The Eastern Conference team had home-ice advantage in the Final in consecutive seasons for the first time since the 2004 and 2006 Finals.

For the first time since 2011, an Eastern Conference team won the Stanley Cup and that neither the Chicago Blackhawks nor the Los Angeles Kings won the Stanley Cup.

This was Pittsburgh's fifth Finals appearance, the first since winning the Cup in 2009, and 25 years after their first Stanley Cup winning season in 1991. Since their win in 2009, the Penguins lost in the Conference Finals in 2013 in four games to the Boston Bruins and were eliminated twice by the New York Rangers in 2014 and 2015.

The Penguins made major trades during the off-season, receiving forwards Phil Kessel and Nick Bonino to improve their offense. Pittsburgh entered the 2015-16 season re-signing defenceman Olli Maatta and forward Bryan Rust. In free agency, the Penguins were able to sign centres Matt Cullen and Eric Fehr. During the season, the Penguins fired their coach Mike Johnston on December 12, 2015 after compiling a 15-10-3 record. Pittsburgh replaced him with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins coach Mike Sullivan who went 33-16-5. The Penguins made two major trades before the trade deadline, receiving defenceman Trevor Daley and forward Carl Hagelin. After goalie Marc-Andre Fleury suffered a concussion on April 2, the team turned to rookie Matt Murray for the final week of the regular season and throughout the playoffs.

Pittsburgh earned 104 points (48 wins, 26 losses, and eight overtime losses) during the regular season to finish second in the Metropolitan Division. Centre and team captain Sidney Crosby led the club in scoring during the regular season and finished third in the league with 85 points.

In the playoffs, the Penguins eliminated the New York Rangers in five games, after being defeated consecutively by them in 2014 and 2015, defeated the Presidents' Trophy-winning Washington Capitals in six games, and extinguished the defending Conference champion Tampa Bay Lightning in the Conference Final in seven games.

The 2020 Stanley Cup Finals was the championship series of the National Hockey League's (NHL) 2019-20 season and the culmination of the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs. This series was between the Eastern Conference champion Tampa Bay Lightning and the Western Conference champion Dallas Stars. The Lightning won the best-of-seven series, four games to two, for their second championship in franchise history. The Lightning had home-ice advantage in the series with the better regular season record. The series began on September 19 and concluded on September 28. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire series was played behind closed doors at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The pandemic resulted in the league suspending the regular season on March 12, 2020, and then scheduling a special 24-team playoff format to be held in two neutral "hub cities" (Edmonton and Toronto) that began on August 1.

This was the first Stanley Cup Finals series since 1925 to be played entirely outside the Eastern Time Zone, the first since 1928 to be played entirely in one location, the first since 1989 to be played entirely in Canada, and the first since 2011 to have the Stanley Cup awarded in a Canadian arena. This was the first Stanley Cup Finals since 1950 to feature a neutral site game and the first Stanley Cup Finals to feature two teams from the American Sun Belt (Texas and Florida). As a result of the pandemic, it was the first Stanley Cup Finals to be played in the month of September. This was the first Stanley Cup Finals since 2002 in which the losing team did not win a home game.

The Dallas Stars set the record for most playoff games played by a team in a single postseason at 27 games.

This was the Tampa Bay Lightning's third appearance in the Finals. They won the Stanley Cup in 2004 before losing the Finals in 2015.

During the offseason, Tampa Bay signed goaltender Curtis McElhinney, defencemen Luke Schenn, Luke Witkowski, and Kevin Shattenkirk, and forward Patrick Maroon during free agency. Tampa Bay also re-signed goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy and forwards Cedric Paquette and Brayden Point. During the regular season, the Lightning traded for forwards Blake Coleman and Barclay Goodrow. They also signed Zach Bogosian whose contract had been terminated by the Buffalo Sabres during the season. During Phase 2 of the Return to Play plan, captain Steven Stamkos injured himself while skating, and subsequently missed the round robin and the first three rounds of the playoffs for the Lightning.

When the regular season was suspended on March 12, the Lightning had a 42-21-6 record and a .657 points percentage to finish second in both the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference. After play resumed in the hubs, Tampa Bay placed second in the Round Robin. The Lightning then defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets in the First Round, including winning game one of the series that became the fourth longest game in NHL history, and the Boston Bruins in the Second Round in five games respectively. The Lightning then eliminated the New York Islanders in the Eastern Conference Finals in six games.

The 2021 Stanley Cup Finals was the championship series of the National Hockey League's (NHL) 2020-21 season and the culmination of the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs. The series was between the Montreal Canadiens and the defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning won the best-of-seven series, four games to one, for their second consecutive and the third overall championship in franchise history. Tampa Bay had home-ice advantage in the series with the better regular season record.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that both shortened and delayed the start of the regular season, the series began on June 28, 2021, and concluded on July 7, 2021, marking the first time that games in the Stanley Cup Finals were held in July. The cross-border travel restrictions under the pandemic also forced the league to temporarily realign this season into four divisions with no conferences, putting all seven Canadian teams into one of those divisions. Consequently, a divisional-based postseason format was held, featuring intra-divisional matchups in the first two rounds. The four divisional playoff champions were then re-seeded by regular season points in the Stanley Cup Semifinals, with the winners of the Semifinals advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals. Under a normal playoff format, this finals matchup would be impossible, as both the Lightning and Canadiens compete in the NHL's Eastern Conference (as rivals in the Atlantic Division no less). However, under the temporarily realigned divisions, some had mixed conferences, which enabled this scenario.

This was the first Finals since 2009 to be played entirely in the Eastern Time Zone, the first since 2011 to feature a Canadian-based team, and the first since 2015 to end in a team winning the Stanley Cup at home.

This Finals matchup broke the Stanley Cup Finals record for highest combined seed between teams, with 26 (Tampa Bay 8th, and Montreal 18th). This record was previously held by the 1991 Stanley Cup Finals, which had a combined seed of 23.

This was Tampa Bay's second consecutive Finals appearance and fourth overall, having won the previous year's Finals against the Dallas Stars in six games.

Tampa Bay made very few transactions to gain players in the offseason. They traded away Braydon Coburn and Cedric Paquette and let Zach Bogosian, Kevin Shattenkirk and Carter Verhaeghe walk via free agency. They re-signed Anthony Cirelli, Patrick Maroon, Luke Schenn, and Mikhail Sergachev. During the season, Tampa Bay traded for defenceman David Savard and traded away forward Alexander Volkov. Forward Nikita Kucherov, who had hip surgery prior to the regular season, returned for the playoffs.

Tampa Bay finished with a 36-17-3 record to finish third in the Central Division. In the playoffs, the Lightning defeated their interstate rival, the Florida Panthers, in six games in the first round. The Lightning then triumphed over the Carolina Hurricanes in five games and in the Stanley Cup Semifinals, in a rematch of the previous year's Eastern Conference Final, they defeated the New York Islanders in seven games.

The 2022 Stanley Cup Finals was the championship series of the National Hockey League's (NHL) 2021 - 22 season and the culmination of the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs. The series was between the Eastern Conference and two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning and the Western Conference champion Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche won the best-of-seven series, four games to two, for their third championship in franchise history. Colorado had home ice advantage in the series with the better regular season record.

The series began on June 15, and concluded on June 26. With the Government of Canada allowing cross-border travel for fully vaccinated players and team personnel between Canada and the United States, the league was able to return to its usual two conference alignment and reinstate its standard playoff format that was used from 2014 - 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. The Finals were still pushed from the usual start date in late May for the third consecutive year, this time due to a scheduled break in the regular season that coincided with the league's planned participation in the 2022 Winter Olympics, though the league's players ultimately did not participate in the Olympics. When NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman tested positive for COVID-19, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly took over the presentation of the Conn Smythe Trophy and the Stanley Cup. This was the first time since 1992 that Gary Bettman did not give the presentation.

This was Colorado's third appearance in the Finals. They won their two prior appearances with their most recent against the New Jersey Devils in 2001.

Mikko Rantanen led the team in points, scoring 92 overall. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper started 57 times for the Avalanche, obtaining 37 wins in the process. However, during Game 1 of their Conference Final series, Kuemper left the game with an upper-body injury. Backup goaltender Pavel Francouz finished the opening game after replacing Kuemper and started the remaining games of the series as a result. During the off-season, the Avalanche traded for Kuemper and forward Kurtis MacDermid. They also picked up free agent Darren Helm. They re-signed defenceman Cale Makar, captain Gabriel Landeskog, and Francouz. Nearing the trade deadline, the Avalanche acquired Josh Manson, Nico Sturm, Artturi Lehkonen, and Andrew Cogliano.

The Avalanche finished the season with 119 points via a 56 - 19 - 7 record, grabbing the Central Division title and first place in the Western Conference. Colorado swept the Nashville Predators in four games during the First Round, then defeated the St. Louis Blues in six games during the Second Round, before sweeping the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Final.

The 2024 Stanley Cup Finals was the championship series of the National Hockey League's (NHL) 2023-24 season and the culmination of the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs. The Eastern Conference champion Florida Panthers defeated the Western Conference champion Edmonton Oilers four games to three in the best-of-seven series, earning their first championship in their thirty year history.

The series began on June 8, and ended on June 24. The Panthers had home-ice advantage in the series as the team with the better regular season record. This was the fifth consecutive Finals featuring a team from Florida.

This was the furthest distance between two cities for a Finals matchup in NHL history with 4,089 kilometres (2,541 miles), breaking the previous record of 4,023 kilometres (2,500 miles) set by the Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins in 2011. This was the first Finals since 1945 to see a team force a seventh game after being down 3-0, with Florida becoming the first team since that occurrence to win the title in seven games after nearly surrendering a 3-0 series lead. This was also the first Stanley Cup Finals since 2018 where no games went to overtime, and the first since 2019 in which the losing team scored more goals (the Oilers outscored the Panthers 23-18 in the series).

This was the second consecutive and third overall Finals appearance for the Panthers. They lost both previous Finals appearances, being swept in 1996 by the Colorado Avalanche and losing in five games to the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023.

During the offseason, the Panthers signed defencemen Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Dmitry Kulikov, forward Evan Rodrigues, and goaltender Anthony Stolarz in free agency. They also re-signed Eetu Luostarinen and traded for Steven Lorentz. At the trade deadline, the team acquired Vladimir Tarasenko, Magnus Hellberg, and Kyle Okposo. They also acquired Tobias Bjornfot via waivers and also re-signed Gustav Forsling shortly before the trade deadline.

Sam Reinhart led the team in scoring with 57 goals and 94 points.

The Panthers finished first in the Atlantic Division with 110 points via a 52-24-6 record. In the first round, they defeated their intra-state rival, the Tampa Bay Lightning, in five games. In the second round, they won in six games against the Boston Bruins in a rematch from the previous season's first round.
The 2023 Stanley Cup Finals was the championship series of the National Hockey League's (NHL) 2022?23 season and the culmination of the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs. The Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Eastern Conference champion Florida Panthers four games to one in the best-of-seven series to earn their first championship in their sixth season. The series began on June 3, and concluded on June 13.

This was the first Finals series since 2018 in which neither team had previously won the Stanley Cup. For the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Finals ran through the first weeks of June.

his was Vegas' second Finals appearance. Their only previous appearance was in 2018, which they lost to the Washington Capitals in five games. The Golden Knights experienced immediate success after beginning play in 2017, reaching the Stanley Cup Finals in their inaugural season and qualifying for the playoffs in their first four. However, they missed the playoffs for the first time in franchise history the previous season, which led to the firing of head coach Peter DeBoer.

During the offseason, the Golden Knights hired former Boston Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy as their head coach. They also acquired goaltender Adin Hill in a trade, re-signed Brett Howden, Reilly Smith, Keegan Kolesar, and Nicolas Roy, and also signed Phil Kessel, a two-time Stanley Cup champion during his time with the Pittsburgh Penguins, during free agency. At the trade deadline, the Golden Knights acquired forwards Ivan Barbashev (reuniting him with Alex Pietrangelo from the 2019 Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues) and Teddy Blueger, as well as goaltender Jonathan Quick who was flipped by the Columbus Blue Jackets from the Los Angeles Kings (reuniting him with defenceman Alec Martinez, both two-time Stanley Cup champions with the Kings).

The Golden Knights finished first in the Pacific Division and the Western Conference with 111 points via a 51-22-9 record. Vegas defeated the Winnipeg Jets in five games during the First Round triumphed over the Edmonton Oilers during the Second Round in six games, and knocked off the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Final in six games.

The 2019 Stanley Cup Finals was the championship series of the National Hockey League's (NHL) 2018-19 season and the culmination of the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs. The Western Conference champion St. Louis Blues defeated the Eastern Conference champion Boston Bruins four games to three to win their first championship, in their 51st season of play (not including the 2004-05 lockout), ending the third longest championship drought in league history. The Bruins had home-ice advantage in this best-of-seven playoff series with the better regular season record. The series began on May 27 and concluded on June 12. The Blues' Stanley Cup-winning run of 26 playoff games tied the 2014 Los Angeles Kings for the longest of any Stanley Cup-winning team in history.

This was a rematch of the 1970 Stanley Cup Finals, which Boston won in four, the fourth consecutive Finals to both involve at least one team vying for its first championship and end with the champion clinching the Cup on the road, and the first time since 2011 where the Finals went the full seven games.

Until this year, the Blues were the oldest franchise to have never won a Stanley Cup. That distinction is now shared by the Buffalo Sabres and the Vancouver Canucks, as both teams were founded in 1970 and are without a Stanley Cup to their name. St. Louis also became the last surviving 1967 NHL expansion team to win their first Stanley Cup, joining the Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Dallas Stars (originally the Minnesota North Stars) and Pittsburgh Penguins.

This was the St. Louis Blues' fourth appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals. Their last appearance in the Finals was in 1970 against the Bruins, which Boston won in a four-game sweep. All of St. Louis' prior appearances came during their first three seasons after the Blues and five other new teams formed the West Division in the 1967 NHL expansion. While the Blues were able to advance past their fellow expansion franchises, each Finals appearance ended with them being swept by Original Six teams that comprised the East Division, concluding with their 1970 defeat. In the years that followed, the other expansion teams from 1967 would win Stanley Cup titles of their own (excluding the defunct California Golden Seals franchise), but the Blues went nearly half a century without reaching the Finals again and became the oldest franchise not to win the Stanley Cup.

Ryan O'Reilly, who was acquired via trade in the off-season led the team in scoring with 77 points and assists with 49. Vladimir Tarasenko led the team in goal-scoring with 33 goals.

St. Louis struggled early in the regular season, beginning the year with a 7-9-3 record. Head coach Mike Yeo was fired and assistant coach Craig Berube named interim coach. Their record declined to an NHL-worst 15-18-4 with 34 points on January 2, 2019. Then the Blues went on a 30-10-5 run to finish the season with 99 points, third in the Central Division. Amid their turnaround, rookie goaltender Jordan Binnington was given his first start and went on to obtain 23 wins. In the playoffs, St. Louis defeated the Winnipeg Jets 4-2 in the First Round, eliminated the Dallas Stars in seven games, and won 4-2 against the San Jose Sharks in the Conference Finals.

The Eastern Conference champion Washington Capitals defeated the Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights four games to one to win their first championship in their 44th season. The Vegas Golden Knights made the Finals in their first season, while this was the second Finals appearance for the Capitals. This was the first Finals series since 2007 where neither team had previously won the Stanley Cup and the third consecutive year in which a Western Conference team made their Finals debut. This was the first Finals since 2014 to require less than six games. Washington captain Alexander Ovechkin was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs.

The series began on May 28 and ended on June 7. The Vegas Golden Knights had home ice advantage in the series since the Golden Knights won the Pacific Division with 109 points during the regular season, while the Capitals won the Metropolitan Division with 105 points.

The Eastern Conference champion and defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Western Conference champion Nashville Predators, four games to two. Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as most valuable player of the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

The Penguins had home ice advantage in the series due to their better regular season record. The series began on May 29 and concluded on June 11. The Penguins made their second consecutive Finals appearance, marking the third time in their history they had done this, following their appearances in 1991-1992 and 2008-2009. This was the first final since the latter year, which was a rematch between the Penguins and Detroit Red Wings, that any team appeared in consecutive Finals. The Penguins also became the first team since the Red Wings (in 1997 and 1998) to win consecutive Stanley Cups.

The Predators made their debut in the Finals. This was the second consecutive season in which a Western Conference team made their first appearance in the Finals; the San Jose Sharks made their Finals debut the year prior. This was the first time in NHL history that two United States-born head coaches faced off against each other in the Stanley Cup Finals.

The series saw the first two games won by the Penguins, with the Predators coming back winning two games at home and tying the series at two games apiece. However, Penguins goaltender Matt Murray did not allow a goal for the rest of the series, allowing Pittsburgh to win games five and six by 6-0 and 2-0 scores. Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan became the third coach in NHL history to win a Stanley Cup in his first two seasons as a coach with his team, joining Pete Green of the Ottawa Senators (in 1920 and 1921) and Toe Blake of the Montreal Canadiens (in 1956 and 1957). This was the first final since 1983 wherein no game was decided by one goal.

The Maple Leafs won the series by 4 games to 3.

For the first time, two rookie goalies met in a Stanley Cup last round. 18-year-old Harry Lumley was in net for the Wings and the Leafs had 26-year-old Frank McCool replacing Turk Broda, who was doing army service.

McCool, whose surname belied his jumpy demeanor, had been discharged from the army himself with stomach ulcers, but despite his medical condition, he would win the Calder Trophy. And he did not allow second-place Detroit, who'd gone 8-1-1 against third-place Toronto that season, a goal until just past the two-minute mark of the fourth game. His three-in-a-row zeroes were a postseason record that would not be repeated for 58 years, and the Leafs sat on the brink of a four-game outbroom.

The 2014 Stanley Cup Finals was the championship series of the National Hockey League (NHL)'s 2013-14 season, and the culmination of the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs. This was the 121st year of the Stanley Cup's presentation. The league realigned its divisions prior to the season, and changed the structure of the playoffs, but the championship series remained the same. The Western Conference champion Los Angeles Kings defeated the Eastern Conference champion New York Rangers four games to one to win their second championship in franchise history, marking the first time since 2007 that the championship series was determined in fewer than six games. Their Stanley Cup-winning run of 26 playoff games was the longest of any Stanley Cup-winning team in history.

Los Angeles had home ice advantage in the series, as the Kings finished with a better regular season record than the Rangers. The series started on June 4, and ended on June 13 with the Kings winning their second Stanley Cup in three years. It was the first playoff meeting between teams from New York City and Los Angeles for a major professional sports championship since the Yankees and the Dodgers played in the 1981 World Series. 1981 was also the last time the Rangers and the Kings had met in the postseason, where the Rangers eliminated the Kings during the preliminary round of the playoffs.

This was the 120th year of the Stanley Cup's presentation. The Western Conference playoff champion Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Eastern Conference playoff champion Boston Bruins in six games to win their fifth Stanley Cup in team history. The Blackhawks also became just the eighth team to win both the Cup and the Presidents' Trophy (as the team with the best regular season record) in the same season. Chicago's Patrick Kane was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs.

Due to a lockout that both shortened and delayed the start of the regular season, the 2013 Cup Finals began on June 12, and lasted until June 24. This was the first Stanley Cup Finals series between two Original Six teams since 1979, and the seventh since its first expansion in 1967. It also marked the first time these two teams have met in the Stanley Cup Finals. In Game 6 of the finals, trailing the Boston Bruins 2-1 with 76 seconds left in the third period, the Blackhawks scored two goals in 17 seconds to win the series 4-2. The win was the Blackhawks' second in four years, after also claiming the title in 2010. It was also the first Stanley Cup Final since 1993 to feature three overtime games, including the fifth longest game in Finals history.

The 1970 Stanley Cup Final championship series was contested by the Boston Bruins and the St. Louis Blues, appearing in their third straight finals. The Bruins were making their first appearance in the Final since 1958. The Bruins would win the series 4-0, their first Stanley Cup victory in 29 years.

Bobby Orr scored the Cup-winning goal on Glenn Hall, with an assist from Derek Sanderson, at forty seconds of overtime, and the subsequent image of Orr flying through the air, his arms raised in victory — he had been tripped by Blues' defenceman Noel Picard at the moment of shooting — is arguably the most famous and recognized hockey image of all time.

The 1995 Stanley Cup Final championship series was contested by the New Jersey Devils and the Detroit Red Wings. This was the first of nine consecutive finals with American based franchises exclusively. New Jersey was making the franchise's first-ever appearance in the Final, while Detroit returned to the Final for the first time since 1966. The Devils swept the series four games to none to win their first Stanley Cup, becoming the sixth post-1967 expansion team to earn a championship.

Despite the fact that the regular season was cut severely short by the owners lockout, both the season, and the finals were saved at the eleventh hour and the playoffs were held, despite many fans and sports writers insistence that such a short season did not adequately reflect a proper hockey season and should have been aborted. The win by the Devils marked their first Stanley Cup title, after 21 seasons and two franchise relocations. It was also the first of three for the Devils in less than a decade. The win was made more impressive by the fact that the Devils won it holding the lowest seed ever to win the Stanley Cup with the 5th seed, which remained the record until 2012, another Final which not only involved the Devils, but also saw the Stanley Cup won by a team that did not have home ice advantage in any of the four rounds of the playoffs, as the Devils lost to the Los Angeles Kings. Their regular season winning percentage was also the lowest since the 1967 Toronto Maple Leafs. They were the underdogs going in, winning their first two games on the road.

It was Colorado's second appearance in the Final, and the first since the team won the Cup in 1996. Colorado defeated New Jersey in seven games to win their second Stanley Cup in franchise history. Colorado's Patrick Roy would win the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the 2001 Playoffs. This was the first Stanley Cup Final since 1994 that would be decided in the maximum seven games. This is also the first and, as of 2012, most recent Finals since 1989 that the number one seeds in each conference have met.

The Islanders had swept the Oilers in four straight games to win the '83 Cup. In 1984, the Islanders were seeking their 5th straight Stanley Cup but the upstart Oilers would win the best-of-seven series four games to one to win their first Stanley Cup, becoming the third post-1967 expansion team and first former WHA team to win the Cup, and also the first team based west of Chicago to win the Stanley Cup since the WCHL's Victoria Cougars became the last non-team to win the trophy in 1925. It was also the fifth straight Final of post-1967 expansion teams and a rematch of the 1983 final - a Stanley Cup final series rematch would not happen again until the 2009 Finals. With their 4 straight Cup wins from 1980 to 1983 and their appearance in the 1984 Cup Final, the Islanders set an record of 19 consecutive playoff series wins that currently stands unbroken. This would be the second of eight consecutive Finals contested by a team from Alberta (Oilers x 6, Calgary Flames x 2), and the first of five consecutive Finals to end with the Cup presentation on Alberta ice (Oilers x 4, Montreal Canadiens x 1).

It was Chicago's eleventh appearance in the Final and their first since 1992, a loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. It was Philadelphia's eighth appearance in the Final and their first since 1997, a loss to the Detroit Red Wings. Chicago defeated Philadelphia four games to two to win their fourth Stanley Cup in franchise history.

This was the first Cup championship for Chicago since 1961, which had been the longest active Stanley Cup drought. The Toronto Maple Leafs, who last won the Cup in 1967 and who have not appeared in the Finals since, currently have the longest active Cup drought streak in the and are the only Original Six team to have not won the Cup at least once in the post-1967 expansion era.

As a culmination of the 2003 Stanley Cup playoffs, the second-seeded Eastern Conference champion New Jersey Devils defeated the seventh-seeded Western Conference champion Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in seven games and were awarded the Stanley Cup. It was New Jersey's first appearance since 2001 and third in four years. It was Anaheim's first-ever appearance. The Devils defeated the Mighty Ducks in seven games to win their third Stanley Cup in less than a decade.

The Devils win was the last in a series of wins they, along with the Colorado Avalanche and the Detroit Red Wings established in the era from 1995 to 2003, as the three teams won a combined eight of nine Stanley Cups during that time. The Devils won in 1995, followed by the Avalanche in 1996, then the Red Wings in 1997 and 1998. After the Dallas Stars won in 1999, the four-year cycle repeated as the Devils started it again in 2000, followed by Colorado in 2001 and Detroit in 2002.

The Devils were led by captain Scott Stevens, coach Larry Robinson and goalie Martin Brodeur. The Stars were led by captain Derian Hatcher, coach Ken Hitchcock and goalie Ed Belfour.

Despite New Jersey being a lower seed in conference play (4) than Dallas (2), New Jersey's 103 points were one more than Dallas, giving them home-ice advantage in the series. The Devils won the Cup in game six on a one-timer goal by Jason Arnott in double overtime. It was their second Stanley Cup overall and first since 1995.

For the Stars, this was the first time since the New York Islanders lost to the Edmonton Oilers in the 1984 Final that a defending Stanley Cup champion lost in the Final. This happened to the Devils the following year when they lost to the Colorado Avalanche.

This is the first-ever Final that featured two relocated teams competing for the Stanley Cup, as well as being the first Final in which both teams had won the Stanley Cup previously after relocation.

It was Colorado's first appearance in the Final, in only their first season in Denver since moving from Quebec City in 1995. It was Florida's first appearance in the Final, in only the franchise's third season since entering the in 1993. Only two other teams have made their first Stanley Cup Final appearance faster: the St. Louis Blues in their debut season in 1967-68, and the 1928 Cup-winning New York Rangers. Colorado defeated Florida in a four game sweep to win their first Stanley Cup becoming the seventh post-1967 expansion team and the second former WHA team (after the Edmonton Oilers) to win the Cup. Colorado's Joe Sakic earned the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP of the 1996 Playoffs.

The Canucks were making the club's second Final appearance, their first coming during their Cinderella run of 1982, and the Rangers were making their tenth appearance, their first since 1979. The Rangers ended their record 54-year championship drought with a victory in game seven to claim the long-awaited Stanley Cup. It was the fourth championship in franchise history. The CBC broadcast of the deciding game seven attracted an average Canadian audience of 4.957 million viewers, making it the most watched CBC Sports program in history to that time.

It was the first appearance in the Final for the Kings, and the 34th for Montreal, their first since the 1989 Final. The Canadiens won the series four games to one to win the team's twenty-fourth Stanley Cup. The year 1993 was the 100th anniversary of the first awarding of the Stanley Cup in 1893. The Canadiens remain the last Canadian team to have won the Cup. The 1993 Canadiens are also the last Stanley Cup championship team to be composed solely of North American-born players.

The Blackhawks were making their first appearance in the Final since 1972-73. After the Blackhawks jumped to an early 4-1 lead in Game 1, Mario Lemieux and the Penguins came back to win the game, sweep the series in four games, and win their second straight and second overall Stanley Cup. It was the 99th year of the Stanley Cup. It was the last final for Chicago Stadium as it closed in 1994.

Pittsburgh defeated the Washington Capitals 4-3, the New York Rangers 4-2, and the Boston Bruins 4-0.

Chicago had to defeat two of their biggest rivals, first the St. Louis Blues 4-2, then their long-time Original Six rival Detroit Red Wings 4-0, and the Edmonton Oilers 4-0.

Chicago set an playoff record in winning 11 games in a row to reach the finals. Pittsburgh had won seven in a row entering the finals and swept Chicago in four games to tie Chicago's record. Pittsburgh then extended the playoff winning streak record to 14 with wins in the first three games against the New Jersey Devils in the following season's first playoff round.

It was the Penguins' first Final series appearance and their first Stanley Cup victory. As of 2012, this is the first and only Stanley Cup Final to feature two teams from the expansion group of 1967. It was Minnesota's second Final series appearance. It is also the first time since 1983 that an American franchise would win the Stanley Cup. This is the first all American finals since 1981, the only previous time the North Stars made the finals.

This was also the first final since 1982 not to feature either the Calgary Flames or the Edmonton Oilers, and the first since 1981 not contested by a team from Western Canada.

The Finals, and the season, ended on May 25, marking the last time to date that the Stanley Cup playoffs have not extended into the month of June.

As of 2012, this is the most recent time that the first two seeds met in the Stanley Cup Final, as the New Jersey Devils had one win less than the Detroit Red Wings in 2000-01 when they played against the Colorado Avalanche in the 2001 finals. It is also the most recent time that the Final series was played entirely in Canada. The Calgary Flames are also the first relocated team (from Atlanta in 1980-81) to win the Stanley Cup. After their cup win, the Flames would not win another playoff series for 15 years, when they reached the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals, but were defeated by the Tampa Bay Lightning in seven games.
