The 110th Grey Cup was played to determine the Canadian Football League (CFL) champion for the 2023 season. The game was played on November 19, 2023, at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario, between the West Division champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the East Division champion Montreal Alouettes. The Alouettes defeated the Blue Bombers, 28 - 24. It was the 12th time that Hamilton had hosted the Grey Cup, the previous having been in 2021.

Due to Ontario COVID-19 public health orders still in effect as of mid-October 2021, all in-person entertainment festivities for the 108th Grey Cup in Hamilton in 2021 were cancelled. It was therefore announced on October 14, 2021, that the 110th Grey Cup in 2023 would be awarded to Hamilton, in order to allow organizers to host the Grey Cup and all associated festivities as originally planned.

The game featured the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, playing in their fourth consecutive Grey Cup, versus the Montreal Alouettes, holders of the record for the longest Grey Cup appearance drought, having last appeared in a championship game in 2010. The Alouettes made their 19th Grey Cup appearance while the Blue Bombers made their league-leading 28th appearance in the title game. The Alouettes were attempting to win their eighth championship and the Blue Bombers were attempting to win their 13th, including their third in four years.

The Alouettes finished in second place in the East Division after qualifying for the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. The team finished with an 11 - 7 record, but notably won every game against teams that finished with losing records, and lost every game against teams that finished with winning records. Because they faced the Blue Bombers, Lions, and Argonauts back-to-back in their schedule, the Alouettes started the season on a two-game winning streak, followed by a three-game losing streak, then a four-game winning streak, then a four-game losing streak, and finally a five-game winning streak. The Alouettes qualified for the playoffs following their week 17 win over the Ottawa Redblacks. In the playoffs, the team handily defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 27 - 12 in the East Semi-Final as they held their opponent to four field goals and no touchdowns. In the East final, the Alouettes would face the heavily favoured 16 - 2 Argonauts, a team to whom the Alouettes had already lost three times during the regular season. However, the Alouettes forced nine Toronto turnovers: four interceptions including two that went for touchdowns, four turnovers on downs, and a fumble recovery. The Alouettes dominated the Argonauts and won the game 38 - 17 in front of the largest crowd to watch an Argonauts game at BMO Field.

The 109th Grey Cup decided the Canadian Football League (CFL) championship for the 2022 season. The game was played on November 20, at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Saskatchewan. It marked the fourth Grey Cup game to be held in Regina, and the first to be held at the new Mosaic Stadium as opposed to Taylor Field.

The game was played between the West Division champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the East Division champion Toronto Argonauts; the Argonauts won 24?23 and earned their league-leading 18th Grey Cup, preventing the Blue Bombers from becoming the first team to win three consecutive Grey Cups since 1980.

As of August 2018, three teams were interested in submitting bids to host the 2021 Grey Cup, as the league met with representatives of those unidentified clubs in Hamilton. Based on the location of the meeting and their previously stated desire to host, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats were speculated to be one of the teams. The previous obstacle-a lawsuit over the construction of Tim Hortons Field-which had prevented the Tiger-Cats from bidding on a Grey Cup game, was settled on May 31, 2018. The Tiger-Cats had previously expressed interest in submitting a bid for the 107th Grey Cup and with litigation cleared, they could move forward with bidding to host their first championship game since the 84th Grey Cup in 1996.

The first club to openly confirm their plans to bid were the Saskatchewan Roughriders, as stated by the club's president and CEO, Craig Reynolds, on October 1, 2018. The game would coincide with the 110th anniversary of the club and would be the fourth time the game would be hosted in Saskatchewan, if successful. The Roughriders' new facility, Mosaic Stadium, opened in 2017 and the Roughriders last hosted the Grey Cup in 2013.

On November 4, 2018, it was reported that the Montreal Alouettes were preparing a bid to see Olympic Stadium host the 2020 championship game. The Alouettes confirmed that they had representatives in Toronto on November 6, 2018, to make their presentation at the league head office to host the game.

It was confirmed on November 13, 2018, that the Tiger-Cats were indeed making a bid for the game as team representatives made their presentation to the league head office in Toronto the week prior. Their Grey Cup festival concept included a downtown-centred event at venues like the Hamilton Convention Centre and Art Gallery of Hamilton. The Tiger-Cats' president of business operations, Matt Afinec, confirmed that the club had support from Hamilton's mayor, Fred Eisenberger, and that three bids for the Grey Cup game had been made.

On February 21, 2019, the 2020 and 2021 Grey Cup games were awarded to Regina and Hamilton respectively. The 2020 CFL season was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic; on May 20, 2020, the CFL announced that the Grey Cup in Regina had been cancelled, and that the game would be played at the home field of the team with the better regular season record, if played at all. Regina was therefore awarded the Grey Cup game played in 2022. The 2020 season was cancelled in full in August 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 season was cancelled and the start of the 2021 season was delayed, pushing the game to December 12, 2021. The 108th Grey Cup was a rematch of the 107th Grey Cup in 2019 between the defending Grey Cup and West Division champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the East Division champion Hamilton Tiger-Cats, at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario. The Blue Bombers defeated the Tiger-Cats 33-25 in overtime for their second straight title, making them the first team in 11 years to win two straight Grey Cups. This game was also the fourth Grey Cup to go into overtime, with the other three instances coming in 1961, 2005 and 2016.

The Blue Bombers finished a dominant season with the best record in the CFL at 11-3 with two of their losses occurring after already clinching first place in the West Division. The team won their first division title since 2011, and first West Division first-place finish since 1972, after they defeated the BC Lions on October 23. The Blue Bombers then had 42 days until their next meaningful game with a West Final matchup, their third consecutive appearance in the Division Final, against the Saskatchewan Roughriders which was won 21-17. The team was undefeated at IG Field, winning all seven regular season games and one playoff game there.

The Blue Bombers defence in 2021 was among the best in CFL history, with just 13.4 points allowed per game, which was their lowest total allowed since 1958 when they had 11.4 points against per game. The team also allowed just six total points scored in the fourth quarter in the first twelve games of the season. The team's quarterback, Zach Collaros, started 13 games and was named the West Division's Most Outstanding Player after finishing the season with a 111.01 quarterback passer rating, which was the tenth best of all time. The team had 15 Divisional All-Stars, the most in the league, with seven on offence, seven on defence, and one on special teams. Despite perennial All-Star running back Andrew Harris missing half of the regular season due to injury, the Blue Bombers finished second in rushing offence in the league, led behind the team's four Division All-Stars on the offensive line. With their appearance in this year's Grey Cup, the Blue Bombers surpassed Edmonton for the most Grey Cup appearances of all time with 26.

In an upset, Ottawa defeated the heavily favoured Stampeders 39-33 in overtime to win a championship in just their third season of existence. This was the third Grey Cup game to go into overtime (the other two instances came in 1961 and 2005). This also marked a first that a CFL team won its division with a losing record (8-9-1) and became the 3rd worst team (behind the 2000 BC Lions and 2001 Calgary Stampeders who both went 8-10) to win the Grey Cup.

The Redblacks ended a 40-year championship drought for the city of Ottawa that spanned three CFL franchises and 27 football seasons of play. The Redblacks became the fourth-fastest expansion team to win a championship in an established North American professional sports league, after the 1950 Cleveland Browns (who won a championship in their first season in the National Football League), the 1927-28 New York Rangers (who won the Stanley Cup in their second National Hockey League season) and the 1995 Baltimore Stallions (who, as part of the CFL's mid-1990's U.S. expansion, won the Grey Cup in their second and final CFL season); they are tied with the 1970-71 Milwaukee Bucks (winners of the National Basketball Association title in their third season).

The game was played at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario.

The Roughriders defeated the Tiger-Cats, 43-40 on Dave Ridgway's winning field-goal.
The 71st Grey Cup was the 1983 Canadian Football League championship game that was played at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, between the Toronto Argonauts and the hometown BC Lions. The Argonauts narrowly defeated the Lions in a close 18-17 victory.

The 1983 Grey Cup marked the first championship game where weather was not a deciding factor, as the final was held indoors for the first time at the new BC Place Stadium in Vancouver.

Most notably, however, 1983 marked the end of what remains (as of 2015) the longest championship drought in the modern era of Canadian football. The Toronto Argonauts, winners of a record 10 Grey Cups, had not sipped from the silver chalice since 1952.

The Argos faced a difficult task. Not only were they opposing the BC Lions with a partisan crowd behind them, but Toronto's star quarterback Condredge Holloway was battling the flu. He did manage, however, to complete a 14-yard touchdown toss to Jan Carinci in the second quarter.

Trailing 17-7, Toronto coach Bob O'Billovich elected to go with Joe Barnes at pivot in the second half. Slowly Barnes got the Argos offence going, only to be negated when Hank Ilesic missed on three field goals. Two were good for singles, however, as Toronto cut its deficit to eight.

When Ilesic finally split the uprights on a 43-yard attempt in the fourth quarter, it put the Argos within striking distance. Then with four minutes remaining, Barnes executed one of the most important drives in Argonauts history. He hit Paul Pearson with a pass at the BC 45, but the ball popped loose into the air. It was another famed Argo bounce, as Emanuel Tolbert caught the ball to keep the drive alive.

Barnes went to work again, throwing to Tolbert at the BC 25 and another pass to Pearson on the three. With 2:44 left in regulation, Barnes flipped to Cedric Minter in the end zone, giving the Boatmen their initial lead of the game. But the Argos failed on the two-point attempt.

Leading by one, Toronto forced BC to punt on its next possession, allowing the Argos to run out most of the clock. BC's Roy Dewalt had one last chance to throw a Hail Mary pass on the final play, but his prayer wasn't answered, as long suffering Argos fans went into the streets in jubilation.

BC scored its points on touchdown passes by Dewalt to Mervyn Fernandez and John Henry White. Lui Passaglia also kicked a 31-yard field goal.

The Eskimos, who were making their sixth consecutive appearance in the CFL championship game, defeated the Argonauts 32-16 on the Eskimos' way to their fifth straight Grey Cup. The game was played on Sunday, November 28, 1982 at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto.

The Eskimos' record breaking 5th Grey Cup victory looked in jeopardy at mid-season, with their 3 and 5 record. But, 10 straight victories pitted them against the underdog Toronto Argonauts. The Boatmen last won a cup in 1952, and their fans were thrilled with expectation. Winners of only 2 games the previous season, they had a 9-6-1 record.

The game, played in a driving rainstorm, started well for Toronto. After a Dave Cutler field goal, new acquired Emanuel Tolbert went 84 yards with a touchdown pass. The Eskimos replied with a Brian Kelly TD reception, but the Argos scored again, with a 10 yard pass to Terry Greer.

With Toronto leading 14 to 10, Edmonton and Warren Moon (the game MVP) would not look back. Another TD pass to Brian Kelly and a Neil Lumsden TD rush, and 3 more Cutler field goals sealed the final Grey Cup victory for the CFL's greatest dynasty.

Moon completed 21 of 33 passes for 319 yards, all the while having to throw in the freezing rain.

The 1981 Grey Cup game is considered to be one of the ten best Grey Cup games of all time. CFL football fans saw an unexpectedly exciting game, as the 22.5 point underdog Ottawa Rough Riders, sporting a woeful record of 5 wins and 11 losses (which is the worst record in CFL history by any Grey Cup finalist team), came within 3 seconds of denying the Edmonton Eskimos. The Esks, with a 14-1-1 record, were almost the victims of what would have been the biggest upset in the history of the Grey Cup.

This was the final appearance in the Grey Cup game for the Ottawa Rough Riders, who folded in 1996. A team from Ottawa would not return to the Grey Cup until 2015. Canadian Football Hall of Fame legends Tom Wilkinson (Edmonton) and Tony Gabriel (Ottawa) played their final game in the 69th Grey Cup as did veteran Edmonton centre Bob Howes. Future US Congressman J.C. Watts was Ottawa's quarterback. He won the Grey Cup Most Valuable Player (Offensive) award.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders won their first Grey Cup after 53 years of competition for this trophy, after losing eight times. With Eagle Keys as head coach the Roughriders defeated the Ottawa Rough Riders led by Frank Clair by a score of 29-14. George Reed was the MVP with 31 rushes for 133 yards and one rushing touchdown. Ottawa lost despite two TD passes of over 60 yards to the speedy long-ball threat Whit Tucker.

Ron Lancaster threw three touchdown passes for Saskatchewan while Russ Jackson had two for Ottawa. It was the only Grey cup win as a starter in Lancaster's career, as he lost his four subsequent Grey Cup appearances in 1967, 1969, 1972, and 1976, the first two under Eagle Keys as head coach, and the last two under Dave Skrien and John Payne, respectively. It was also the only Grey Cup loss in Jackson's career, who was the starting quarterback for Ottawa victories in the 48th Grey Cup of 1960, the 56th Grey Cup of 1968, and the 57th Grey Cup of 1969, his final year, all under head coach Frank Clair.

BC player Bill Munsey scored two touchdowns in the third quarter, one on offence and another on defence. Having replaced injured running back Bob Swift, he took a handoff from quarterback Joe Kapp, and broke over right guard for an 18-yard touchdown. Later in the quarter, at the BC 35-yard line, Hamilton quarterback Bernie Faloney lateraled to halfback Johnny Counts, who dropped the ball. In the ensuing scramble for the fumbled ball, Munsey picked it up and ran 71 yards for another touchdown. Bob Swift, Willie Fleming and Jim Carphin also scored TDs for the Lions.

The contest was held at BC Place stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Stampeders won the contest 20-16 to claim their seventh Grey Cup championship in franchise history and first since 2008. Calgary quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell was named the Grey Cup Most Valuable Player, while Hamilton's Andy Fantuz received the Dick Suderman Trophy as most outstanding Canadian.

Host city

In 2008, the CFL awarded an expansion team to Ottawa and named the city host of the 2014 Grey Cup, conditional on the franchise being ready to play by 2010. Lawsuits and construction delays during the renovation of Frank Clair Stadium pushed the start date for the city's expansion team, the Ottawa RedBlacks, to 2014. As a consequence, the CFL sought a new venue for the contest. The CFL moved the game to BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia, which had most recently hosted the 99th Grey Cup in 2011.

Path to the Grey Cup

The Calgary Stampeders finished the regular season with the top record in the CFL at 15-3. Their 15 wins also tied the franchise record. They advanced directly to the West Division final where they hosted the Edmonton Eskimos. Led by running back Jon Cornish, the Stampeders eliminated the Eskimos with a 43-18 victory. Cornish was named the Most Outstanding Canadian for 2014 after leading the CFL in rushing with 1,082 yards despite missing nine games due to injuries. He was one of two award winners for the Stampeders as centre Brett Jones was named Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman. The team was led by 24-year-old quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, who stood 15-2 in his career as a starter and who won his first playoff game in the victory over Edmonton.

The Edmonton Eskimos demolished the Hamilton Tiger-Cats by the score 48 to 10, in one of the Grey Cup's most lopsided victories.

The officials cancelled most of the last minute of the game when fans began running on the field.

Though Eskimos fans cherish this victory, their team's third Grey Cup in a row (of their record 5 straight wins) and most convincing triumph, this was one of the truly dreadful blow outs in Grey Cup history. You have to go back to 1923 and the 11th Grey Cup, when Queen's University blanked the Regina Roughriders 54-0 to find a larger margin of victory.

To date, this also the most recent Grey Cup in which a team did not score a single touchdown during the course of the game (all of the Ti-Cats points were accounted for by Bernie Ruoff).

The Stallions won the game by a score of 37-20. It marked the only time that an American-based team won the Grey Cup.

Tracy Ham was named the game's most valuable player. Ham threw for 213 yard and rushed for a touchdown. Stamps slotback Dave Sapunjis was the game's outstanding Canadian hauling in eight passes for 113 yards.

Stallions linebacker O.J. Brigance would later win Super Bowl XXXV on January 28, 2001 as a member of the National Football League's Baltimore Ravens, becoming the only football player in history to ever win a Grey Cup and a Super Bowl with teams based out of exactly the same city.

This was the first Grey Cup to be played in the province of Saskatchewan.

Shortly after the season, the Cleveland Browns announced they were moving to Baltimore. Knowing he could not compete with an NFL team, Stallions owner Jim Speros opted to cancel his franchise and used his organization and players as the basis for reactivating the dormant Montreal Alouettes franchise. As a result, the Stallions are officially one of two Grey Cup champions in the modern era to fold.

The game took place on November 24, 2013, at Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field in Regina, Saskatchewan. It was the third Grey Cup game to be hosted in Regina following the 83rd and 91st editions of the game. The Roughriders won their fourth championship with a score of 45 to 23 against the Tiger-Cats. The game took place on artificial turf, and Mosaic Stadium added temporary seating to bring the total seating capacity to just under 45,000.

Kick-off occurred at 5:30 p.m. CST (6:30 p.m. EST; 3:30 p.m. PST), while the pre-game started at noon CST (1 p.m. EST; 10 a.m. PST).

This was the third consecutive year that the Grey Cup involved a team from the host city, following the BC Lions in the 99th Grey Cup and the Toronto Argonauts in the 100th, with all three games seeing the host win. This was also the fourth time that the Roughriders and Tiger-Cats met in the Grey Cup final, having previously met in the 55th, 60th, and 77th editions of the game.

Roughriders running back Kory Sheets was named the Most Valuable Player after setting a Grey Cup record by rushing for 197 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Slotback Chris Getzlaf, also of the Roughriders, was awarded the Dick Suderman Trophy as the Most Valuable Canadian.

The game took place on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario. This was the fourth Grey Cup game played at Rogers Centre, and the 46th in the city of Toronto.

The Argonauts defeated the Stampeders 35-22 to win their sixteenth Grey Cup title.

This was the third meeting between Calgary and Toronto for the Grey Cup championship and the first since the 79th Grey Cup in 1991. This was also the second consecutive year that the Grey Cup game involved, and was won by, the team from the host city. The result of the game also meant that Argonauts owner David Braley became the first team owner to win back-to-back Grey Cups with two different teams; Braley also owns the 2011 champions, the BC Lions. Over 5.8 million viewers watched the game, with roughly 5.5 million originating from English Canada, making the game the most-watched Grey Cup ever recorded on English-language television.

Following the game, Toronto running back Chad Kackert was named the Most Valuable Player. His teammate, defensive end Ricky Foley received the Dick Suderman Trophy as the Most Valuable Canadian.

The Montreal Alouettes came from behind to defeat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 28-27, on a 33-yard field goal by Damon Duval as time ran out. Duval had actually missed a first attempt, but Saskatchewan was penalized for having too many men on the field, allowing Duval a second field goal attempt.

Montreal running back Avon Cobourne was named the Most Valuable Player of the game. Alouettes slotback Ben Cahoon received the Dick Suderman Trophy as the Grey Cup's Most Valuable Canadian.

The Eastern Division Champion Montreal Alouettes hosted the Western Division Champion Calgary Stampeders. The Stampeders won the game 22-14, with quarterback Henry Burris winning the MVP award. It was the first time Montreal had hosted the Grey Cup since 2001, the first time since the 2002 Grey Cup that the host city played for the Grey Cup, and the first time since the 58th Grey Cup in 1970 that the Alouettes and Stampeders had met for the national championship.[1] Hoping to break the record for highest attendance for a Grey Cup game, the organizers expanded Olympic Stadium to almost 70,000 seats. A crowd of 66,308 attended the game, failing to break the record of 68,318 set in 1977, but good enough to be the second-highest attended Grey Cup game of all time. Montreal has now played host to the four largest Grey Cup games in history.

The Lions defeated the Blue Bombers 34-23 and became the first team in CFL history to win the Grey Cup after starting the season with five straight losses. They also became the first team to win the championship game at home since the 1994 Lions did it in the 82nd Grey Cup, and were only the fourth team in the modern era to do so. This, a rematch of the 76th Grey Cup, was the second time that these two teams met for the championship.

The game took place on November 27, 2011, at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia. This was the eighth Grey Cup game played at BC Place, and the 15th in Vancouver, the most recent previous one having been the 93rd Grey Cup between the Montreal Alouettes and Edmonton Eskimos.

BC head coach Wally Buono won his fifth Grey Cup, tying a CFL record. In his first Grey Cup, Lions quarterback Travis Lulay threw two second-half touchdown passes and was named Grey Cup MVP. Lions tailback Andrew Harris, also playing in his first championship game, was the Most Valuable Canadian.
