Super Bowl LIII was an American football game played to determine the champion of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2018 season. The American Football Conference (AFC) champion New England Patriots defeated the National Football Conference (NFC) champion Los Angeles Rams, 13-3. The game was played on February 3, 2019 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. This was the first Super Bowl played at that stadium, and the third one held in Atlanta.

The Patriots' victory was their sixth, tying the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most Super Bowl championships. New England, after finishing the regular season with a 11-5 record, advanced to their 11th Super Bowl appearance, their fourth in five years, and their ninth under the leadership of head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady. The Rams, who finished the regular season with a 13-3 record under 33-year-old head coach Sean McVay and third-year quarterback Jared Goff, made their fourth Super Bowl appearance overall, and their first one since moving back from St. Louis to Los Angeles in 2016. Super Bowl LIII was a rematch of Super Bowl XXXVI, a 20-17 Patriots win over the Rams that gave the Belichick-Brady tandem its first Super Bowl championship. Coincidentally, the Patriots reached that Super Bowl with an 11-5 record as well. With the Rams now playing in Los Angeles, Super Bowl LIII marked the first Super Bowl appearance of a Los Angeles-based team since the then-Los Angeles Raiders' victory in Super Bowl XVIII. This marked the 14th meeting in a major sports championship between the Los Angeles and Greater Boston areas.

Super Bowl LIII was the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in history, eclipsing the previous record of 14-7 held by Super Bowl VII, and the lowest-scoring league championship contest since a 14-0 score was recorded during the 1949 NFL Championship Game. It also marked the first Super Bowl with no touchdowns scored by either team in the first three quarters, as the Patriots and the Rams held the contest to a 3-3 tie as they entered the fourth quarter. New England then scored 10 unanswered points for the victory, as their lone touchdown tied them with the New York Jets in Super Bowl III for the fewest touchdowns by a winning Super Bowl team. The Rams ended up as only the second losing team to not score a touchdown, joining the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VI. Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman, who caught 10 passes for 141 yards, was named Super Bowl MVP.

The broadcast of the game on CBS had the smallest Super Bowl audience in 10 years. The halftime show was headlined by U.S. pop group Maroon 5, joined by rappers Big Boi and Travis Scott as guests.

Super Bowl LIV was an American football game played to determine the champion of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2019 season. The American Football Conference (AFC) champion Kansas City Chiefs defeated the National Football Conference (NFC) champion San Francisco 49ers 31 - 20, marking their first Super Bowl victory since Super Bowl IV and the Chiefs' first NFL championship since joining the league in the AFL?NFL merger. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes won the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award, having completed 26 of 42 pass attempts for 286 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, and well as rushing for 29 yards and one touchdown.

The game was played on February 2, 2020, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. This was the eleventh Super Bowl hosted by the South Florida region and the sixth Super Bowl hosted in Miami Gardens, which hosted Super Bowl XLIV ten years earlier. This was also the first Super Bowl in seven years to not feature quarterbacks Tom Brady or Peyton Manning.

The first half of the game was back and forth between both teams, with the game tied at 10 at halftime. In the third quarter, the 49ers began to pull away, with a Robbie Gould field goal and a touchdown run by Raheem Mostert giving them a 20 - 10 lead heading into the fourth quarter. However, over the final 6:13 of the game, the Chiefs offense completed two touchdown drives with Mahomes throwing touchdown passes to Travis Kelce and Damien Williams, to take the lead just before the two-minute warning. The Chiefs then stopped the 49ers on defense, and a late touchdown run by Damien Williams, as well as a Kendall Fuller interception, sealed the victory and ended the Chiefs' 50-year championship drought.

The game's broadcast in the United States by Fox, along with the halftime show headlined by Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, was seen by an estimated 102 million viewers - a slight increase over Super Bowl LIII in 2019 (which had seen the smallest audience for the game in 10 years). Due to the seating capacity of Hard Rock Stadium, this game also had the second lowest attendance in Super Bowl history (after Super Bowl I) and the lowest since the merger.

Super Bowl LV was the championship game of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2020 NFL season. The National Football Conference (NFC) champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the American Football Conference (AFC) champion Kansas City Chiefs, 31-9. The game was played on February 7, 2021, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, the home stadium of the Buccaneers, marking the first time that a team played a Super Bowl in its home stadium. Due to COVID-19 protocols limiting the stadium's seating capacity to 25,000 fans, it was the least-attended Super Bowl.

The Buccaneers' victory was their second and made them the only team other than the Baltimore Ravens to be undefeated in multiple Super Bowls. They finished the regular season with an 11-5 record and a wild card berth to advance to their second Super Bowl appearance through the guidance of several new acquisitions, most notably veteran quarterback Tom Brady in his first season away from the New England Patriots, who was the Super Bowl's oldest player at 43. The Chiefs, aided by their top-ranked offense, finished the regular season with a league-best 14-2 record to advance to their fourth Super Bowl appearance and were the defending Super Bowl LIV champions, seeking to become the first repeat champions since the Patriots in 2004.

Kansas City entered the game favored to win, but were undone by offensive struggles and costly penalties. For the first time under quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs failed to score a touchdown and lost by double-digits, making them the third Super Bowl team to not score a touchdown. They committed 11 penalties for 120 yards, including a record eight penalties for 95 yards in the first half, most of which were called against the defense. The Buccaneers capitalized on these mistakes to take a commanding 21-6 lead at halftime and dominated the remainder of the game. Brady, who also extended his player records for Super Bowl appearances at 10 and wins at seven, was named Super Bowl MVP for a record fifth time and was the first to receive the award with multiple franchises. He became the oldest player to receive the honor and win a Super Bowl as the starting quarterback, breaking additional personal records, while Bruce Arians was the oldest head coach to win the Super Bowl at 68.

The game was televised nationally by CBS. Country music singer Eric Church and R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan performed the national anthem, while the halftime show was headlined by Canadian singer The Weeknd. On television, Super Bowl LV was seen by 91.63 million viewers, the lowest ratings for the game since 2006. Combined with viewership on other platforms, viewership was down by 5% overall in comparison to Super Bowl LIV, but with a 69% increase in average streaming viewership.

Super Bowl 50 was an American football game to determine the champion of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2015 season. The American Football Conference (AFC) champion Denver Broncos defeated the National Football Conference (NFC) champion Carolina Panthers 24-10 to earn their third Super Bowl title. The game was played on February 7, 2016, at Levi's Stadium in the San Francisco Bay Area at Santa Clara, California. As this was the 50th Super Bowl, the league emphasized the "golden anniversary" with various gold-themed initiatives during the 2015 season, as well as suspending the tradition of naming each Super Bowl game with Roman numerals (under which the game would have been known as "Super Bowl L"), so the logo could prominently feature the Arabic numerals 50.

The Panthers finished the regular season with a 15-1 record, racking up the league's top offense, and quarterback Cam Newton was named the NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP). They defeated the Arizona Cardinals 49-15 in the NFC Championship Game and advanced to their second Super Bowl appearance since the franchise was founded in 1995. The Broncos finished the regular season with a 12-4 record, thanks to having the league's top defense, and despite the struggles of starting quarterback Peyton Manning; they defeated the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots 20-18 in the AFC Championship Game. They joined the Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, and Pittsburgh Steelers as one of four teams that have made eight appearances in the Super Bowl.

The Broncos took an early lead in Super Bowl 50 and never trailed. Newton was limited by Denver's defense, which registered seven sacks and forced him into three turnovers, including a fumble which the Broncos recovered for a touchdown. Carolina's defense kept the game close by holding Denver's offense without a touchdown until late in the fourth quarter; defensive end Kony Ealy became the first player in Super Bowl history to have an interception and three sacks. Denver linebacker Von Miller was named Super Bowl MVP; Miller recorded five solo tackles, 2½ sacks, and two forced fumbles in the game. This game was also the final game of Peyton Manning's career; he announced his retirement on March 7, 2016.

CBS's broadcast of the game was the third most-watched program in American television history with an average of 111.9 million viewers. The network charged an average of $5 million for a 30-second commercial during the game. The Super Bowl 50 halftime show was headlined by Coldplay, with special guest performers Beyoncé and Bruno Mars

Super Bowl LIX was an American football championship game played between the National Football Conference (NFC) champion Philadelphia Eagles and the American Football Conference (AFC) and two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs to determine the champion of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2024 season. In a rematch of Super Bowl LVII two years prior, the Eagles defeated the Chiefs 40-22. The game was played on February 9, 2025, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. It was the eleventh Super Bowl played in New Orleans, and the eighth in the Superdome following Super Bowl XLVII in 2013. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was named Super Bowl MVP after scoring three total touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) and setting the Super Bowl record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 72.

The Chiefs finished the regular season with a 15-2 record (tied for league best). Kansas City's seventh Super Bowl appearance, the franchise entered the game in a bid to achieve the first-ever Super Bowl three-peat, having won Super Bowl LVIII in 2024 and Super Bowl LVII in 2023. The Eagles posted a 14-3 record with the aid of an improved offense and the league's top-ranked defense, making their fifth Super Bowl appearance.

Although Super Bowl LIX was expected to be a close contest, the Eagles dominated throughout the game. The Chiefs did not score until the waning moments of the third quarter, gaining only 23 yards in the first half, the second-lowest first-half yardage in Super Bowl history. Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes struggled throughout, being sacked a career-high six times, all while the Eagles' defense did not employ any blitzes. He committed three turnovers, including a 38-yard pick-six by Cooper DeJean, who became the second rookie in Super Bowl history to achieve such a feat. Philadelphia took advantage of their powerful defensive performance and the Chiefs' offensive struggles to build a 34-point lead by the time of the Chiefs' first score. The Eagles held a 40-6 lead in the final five minutes before the Chiefs had two late scores, occurring after many of the Eagles' starters had exited the game.

This was the Eagles second Super Bowl championship, along with their victory in Super Bowl LII seven years earlier. The Chiefs were handed their third Super Bowl loss in franchise history, following losses in Super Bowl I and Super Bowl LV.

The game was televised in the United States by Fox and streamed on Tubi. Super Bowl LIX became the most watched broadcast in American television history, with an average of 127.7 million viewers in the United States, breaking a record set by the previous year's Super Bowl. An average of 14.5 million viewers came from streaming platforms. The halftime show, headlined by Kendrick Lamar, became the most watched of its kind with a TV audience of more than 133.5 million viewers, breaking a record set by that of Super Bowl XXVII.

Super Bowl LVI was an American football game played to determine the champion of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2021 season. The National Football Conference (NFC) champion Los Angeles Rams defeated the American Football Conference (AFC) champion Cincinnati Bengals, 23 - 20. The game was played on February 13, 2022, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, the home stadium of the Rams, marking the second consecutive and second overall Super Bowl with a team playing and winning in its home stadium.

The Rams' victory was their second, first as a Los Angeles-based team, and their first since winning 1999's Super Bowl XXXIV when they were based in St. Louis. Finishing with a 12 - 5 record, the Rams reached their fifth appearance after acquiring veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford, who had not won a playoff game in his previous 12 years with the Detroit Lions. The Bengals, who finished with a 10 - 7 record, were seeking their first Super Bowl title following several decades of losing seasons and playoff struggles. They won their first playoff game since 1990, ending the longest drought in the four major North American sports, en route to their third Super Bowl appearance and first since 1988's Super Bowl XXIII. Each team finished the regular season as their respective conference's 4-seed, making this the first Super Bowl without a top-2 seed since seeding was introduced in 1975. As such it was also the first Super Bowl in which both teams who met in the Super Bowl had met in the wild card round of the playoffs.

The game had three lead changes and mostly kept within a one-possession margin. Los Angeles led 13 - 10 at halftime, but the Bengals scored 10 straight points on their first two drives in the third quarter. Trailing 20 - 16 in the fourth, the Rams scored a touchdown to retake the lead with under two minutes remaining and stopped Cincinnati's final drive on downs. Wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who converted a fourth down on the Rams' final drive and scored the game-winning touchdown, was named Super Bowl MVP.

NBC's broadcast of Super Bowl LVI was the second-most watched in the game's history, marking a shift from several years of declining ratings. Seen by an average of 112.3 million total viewers on both NBC and its streaming platforms, the game's ratings were up 8% from the previous Super Bowl.

Super Bowl LVII was an American football game played to determine the champion of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2022 season. The American Football Conference (AFC) champion Kansas City Chiefs defeated the National Football Conference (NFC) champion Philadelphia Eagles, 38 - 35. The game was played on February 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. It was the fourth Super Bowl hosted by the Phoenix metropolitan area, and the third at this venue, with the most recent previously being Super Bowl XLIX in 2015 (then known as University of Phoenix Stadium).

Both teams finished the regular season with a league-best 14 - 3 record. This was the Eagles' fourth Super Bowl appearance, having previously won Super Bowl LII, and losses in Super Bowls XV and XXXIX. This was the Chiefs' fifth Super Bowl appearance overall and third in the last four seasons, having previously won Super Bowls IV and LIV, and losses in Super Bowls I and LV.

After the Eagles went into halftime up 24 - 14, the Chiefs mounted a comeback to win the game 38 - 35 with a game-winning field goal kicked by Harrison Butker. Butker's game-winning kick was set up by a pivotal defensive holding call on Philadelphia cornerback James Bradberry, which was criticized by some observers but supported by others, including Bradberry himself. The 73 combined points made this the third-highest scoring Super Bowl game, and the 35 points scored by the Eagles were the most by the losing team in the Super Bowl. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP), completing 21 of 27 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns. The three touchdowns and two-point conversion scored by Jalen Hurts tied the record for most points scored by a player in a Super Bowl with 20.

Fox's broadcast of the game became the most-watched program in American television history, with an average of 115.1 million viewers. The halftime show, headlined by Rihanna, peaked at 118.7 million viewers.

Super Bowl LVIII was an American football game played to determine the champion of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2023 season. A rematch of Super Bowl LIV four years prior, the American Football Conference (AFC) champion and defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs defeated the National Football Conference (NFC) champion San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime. The Chiefs became the first NFL team since the 2004 New England Patriots to win back-to-back Super Bowls. The game was played on February 11, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. This was the first Super Bowl to be held in the state of Nevada.

This was the Chiefs' fourth Super Bowl appearance and third win in five years, their last loss coming in Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. It was the second Super Bowl to be decided in overtime, the first being Super Bowl LI, seven years earlier. Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP), completing 34 of 46 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Due to the seating capacity of Allegiant Stadium, the game's sellout attendance of 61,629 was the smallest unrestricted crowd in Super Bowl history, and the smallest unrestricted NFL Championship attendance since December 1946 (58,346).

The game was televised nationally by CBS, streamed on Paramount+, alternatively broadcast on youth-oriented sister network Nickelodeon, and televised on the Spanish-language network Univision. It was also the second simulcast in Super Bowl history, and the first since Super Bowl I. Super Bowl LVIII became the most watched program in American television history, with a total of 123.7 million average viewers across all platforms, which broke the average record of 115.1 million viewers set by the previous year's Super Bowl. This record would again be broken the following year. The game saw the highest unduplicated total audience in history with more than 200 million viewers watching all or part of the game. It was the most-watched United States broadcast since the Apollo 11 moon landing. The halftime show, headlined by Usher, peaked at 129 million viewers. The game's net playing time of 74 minutes and 57 seconds ranks as the longest in Super Bowl history.

Due to the game's competitive and unpredictable nature throughout, as well as its overtime finish, it is ranked as one of the greatest Super Bowls of all time. For the third straight year the Super Bowl was played in the Western United States, following host cities Inglewood, California, in 2022 and Glendale, Arizona, in 2023. It was the first Super Bowl since its inception that George Toma did not serve as groundskeeper.

Super Bowl LI was an American football game played between the American Football Conference (AFC) champions New England Patriots and the National Football Conference (NFC) champions Atlanta Falcons, to decide the National Football League (NFL) champion for the 2016 season. The Patriots defeated the Falcons, 34-28, in the first Super Bowl ever to go into an overtime period.

Super Bowl LI was played at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, on Sunday, February 5, 2017. It was the second Super Bowl to be held at NRG Stadium, the other being Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004, which also featured the New England Patriots against that season's NFC South champion Carolina Panthers. It was also the third time the Super Bowl has been played in Houston, with Super Bowl VIII in 1974 having been held at Rice Stadium.

More than 30 team and individual Super Bowl records were either broken or matched in Super Bowl LI. The Patriots overcame a 25-point deficit to win (they trailed 28-3 with 2:07 left in the third quarter), breaking the record for the largest deficit overcome to win the Super Bowl (the previous record was ten points, which was set during Super Bowl XXII and later matched twice, including by the Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX). New England Patriot's quarterback Tom Brady, who completed 43 passes on 62 attempts for 466 yards, all single-game Super Bowl records, was named Super Bowl MVP for a record fourth time. James White's 14 receptions and 20 points scored were also Super Bowl records. The Patriots' victory was their fifth all-time, moving them into a three-way tie with the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers for second place on the all-time Super Bowl wins list, trailing only the Pittsburgh Steelers who have six Super Bowl victories.

Super Bowl LI was the Patriots' record-setting ninth Super Bowl appearance, their second in three years, and their seventh under the leadership of head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady. The Falcons entered the game trying to win their first Super Bowl title, having lost their only previous appearance in Super Bowl XXXIII.

The halftime show was headlined by Lady Gaga.

Other events related event included the annual NFL Honors in Wortham Theater Center and Super Bowl Opening Night in Minute Maid Park. The NFL moved Super Bowl media availability (commonly referred to as media day) to a prime time slot for the first time with the completely reimagined Super Bowl Opening Night.

Super Bowl LII was an American football game played to determine the champion of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2017 season. The National Football Conference (NFC) champion Philadelphia Eagles defeated the American Football Conference (AFC) and defending Super Bowl LI champion New England Patriots, 41-33, to win their first Super Bowl and their first NFL title since 1960. The game was played on February 4, 2018, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This was the second time that a Super Bowl was played in Minneapolis, the northernmost city to ever host the event, after Super Bowl XXVI at the Metrodome during the 1991 season, and the sixth Super Bowl held in a cold-weather city.

New England finished the regular season with an AFC-best 13-3 record, then extended their record Super Bowl appearances to ten, their third in four years, and their eighth under the leadership of head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady. Philadelphia also finished the regular season with an NFC-best 13-3 record but entered the playoffs as underdogs after starting quarterback Carson Wentz suffered a season-ending injury late in the regular season and was replaced by backup quarterback Nick Foles. Still, the Eagles advanced to their third Super Bowl appearance, having previously lost to the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XV and to the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX.

Several records were set during Super Bowl LII, including most yards gained in an NFL game by both teams combined (1,151), the fewest punts from both teams in a Super Bowl (one), and the most points scored by a Super Bowl losing team (33). The game was settled after the Eagles converted a fumble recovery deep within Patriots territory to a field goal with 1:05 remaining to extend their lead to eight points, and Brady's Hail Mary pass fell incomplete as time expired. Foles completed 28 of 43 pass attempts for 373 yards and three touchdowns with one interception, caught a one-yard touchdown pass, and was named Super Bowl MVP. Foles' touchdown catch later became known as The Philly Special and joined NFL lore.

The broadcast of the game on NBC had the smallest Super Bowl audience in nine years, with an average of 103.4 million viewers. Average TV viewership for the halftime show, headlined by Justin Timberlake, was 106.6 million American television viewers, 9 percent less than the previous year.

At the end of the regular season, the San Diego Chargers (11-3) won the Western Division for the third time in the four-year existence of the AFL. The Eastern Division Boston Patriots and Buffalo Bills had identical 7-6-1 records, which required a tiebreaker playoff game on December 28.

San Diego fullback Keith Lincoln performed tremendously and led the Chargers to an astounding 51-10 rout of Boston. Named the game's outstanding player, he rushed for 206 yards on 13 carries, led the team with 123 yards in receiving, and completed a pass for 20 yards.

The Chargers' championship win 53 years ago is noted for being the only major sports title for the city of San Diego. Because of this, San Diego presently has the longest championship drought for a city that has at least two sports teams. The Patriots did not win a league championship until the 2001 season in Super Bowl XXXVI.

Rodgers threw three touchdown passes to receive MVP honors, and Nick Collins returned an interception for another score, leading the Packers to a 31-25 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

This was Green Bay's fourth Super Bowl title. The Packers won the first two Super Bowls with Vince Lombardi coaching Bart Starr, and they claimed another with Brett Favre in January 1997.

The game was played on December 30, 1962 at Yankee Stadium in New York City between the New York Giants and Green Bay Packers. The attendance for the game was 64,892. The Packers were coached by Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi, and the Giants by Allie Sherman. The weather during the game was so cold that television crews used bonfires to thaw out their cameras, and one cameraman suffered frostbite. The conditions also made throwing the ball difficult. Green Bay won 16-7 behind the performances of game Most Valuable Player linebacker Ray Nitschke, and fullback Jim Taylor. Green Bay right guard Jerry Kramer kicked three field goals and an extra point. The Giants fumbled twice, losing each, while the Packers recovered all five of their fumbles.

December 31, 1967 at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, Oakland, California

The Oakland Raiders were ten and a half point favorites over the Houston Oilers in the 1967 AFL Championship Game. Quarterback Daryle Lamonica, claimed on waivers from the Buffalo Bills in the offseason, led the Raiders to a 13-1 record, throwing 30 touchdown passes in the process. The Oilers went from last place in the Eastern Conference in 1966 to first in '67, beating out the New York Jets by a game. Most of the Oilers' offense centered on big fullback Hoyle Granger, and a midseason quarterback trade for the shifty Pete Beathard (sending their own starter, Jacky Lee, to the Kansas City Chiefs) proved to be the spark that turned Houston's season around.

The previous meeting between the two teams had been a close game won 19-7 by the Raiders, with Lamonica struggling offensively. This was not the case in the rematch. Oakland took a 10-0 lead in the second quarter on a 69 yard run down the left sidelines by Hewritt Dixon, and on a fake field goal attempt Lamonica passed to Dave Kocourek for the 17-0 halftime margin. Former Oilers quarterback George Blanda, who had led Houston to the AFL's first two championships, kicked four field goals for the Raiders. Houston did not score until the fourth quarter, when they already trailed 30-0.

at War Memorial Stadium, Buffalo, New York
Date: January 1, 1967

The Bills went into the 1966 AFL Championship having already won the game the previous two years. Though the game was to be played in Buffalo, the visiting Kansas City Chiefs were three-point favorites, mainly because of their explosive and innovative offense led by Head Coach Hank Stram. The Bills were a more conventional team with a solid defensive line and a running mindset on offense.

Kansas City dominated the game from start to finish, forcing four turnovers (without losing any themselves) and outscoring Buffalo 24-0 over the last three quarters.

On the opening kickoff, Fletcher Smith's short kick was fielded by defensive end Dudley Meredith, who promptly fumbled the ball, and KC punter Jerrel Wilson, who also played on the kick coverage team, recovered it for the Chiefs on the Bills 31-yard line. This led to the first score of the game, a 29-yard touchdown pass from Len Dawson to tight end Fred Arbanas . After an exchange of punts, Buffalo tied the game when receiver Elbert Dubenion raced ahead of defensive back Fred Williamson, caught a pass from Jack Kemp at the Chiefs 45, and raced all the way to the end zone for a 69-yard touchdown reception.

Later on, Mike Garrett's 27-yard punt return gave the Chiefs a first down on the Bills 45-yard line. After a few plays, Dawson made a key 15-yard completion to Arbanas on the Buffalo 29. It was the last catch of the day for Arbanas, who ended up leaving the game with a separated shoulder, but it paid off big time as Dawson threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Otis Taylor on the next play, giving the Chiefs a 14-7 second quarter lead. Buffalo responded with a drive deep into Chiefs territory, featuring Kemp's 30-yard completion to rookie receiver Rob Burnett on the Kansas City 12-yard line. But in what turned out to be one of the most crucial plays of the game, Kemp's next pass was intercepted in the end zone by safety Johnny Robinson, who returned it 72 yards to the Bills 28. Mike Mercer eventually cashed in the turnover with a 32-yard field goal that gave the Chiefs a 17-7 halftime lead.

The third quarter was a defensive struggle with each team punting twice. Near the end, Kansas City got the ball on the Bills 42-yard line, but failed to score when Mercer missed a 49-yard field goal attempt.

In the fourth quarter, the Chiefs put the game away with consecutive touchdown drives. First, Dawson's 45-yard completion to Chris Burford gave the team a first down on the Buffalo 4-yard line. Garrett then ran the ball on the next four plays, his last carry a 1-yard touchdown run. Then on the first play of Buffalo's next drive, receiver Glenn Bass lost a fumble that was recovered by Bobby Hunt and returned 21 yards to the Bills 20-yard line, leading to the final score of the game on Garrett's 18-yard touchdown burst. Buffalo could do nothing with their next drive, and on their final one of the day, Kemp was intercepted by Emmitt Thomas.

Dawson was near perfect, completing 16/24 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 28 yards. Garrett rushed for 39 yards and two touchdowns, caught 4 passes for 16 yards, returned a kickoff for 3 yards, and added another 37 yards on 3 punt returns. Kempt completed just 12/25 passes for 253 yards and a touchdown, with two interceptions. Burnett caught 6 passes for 127 yards.

Cleveland Municipal Stadium
Cleveland, OH

The 1964 Cleveland Browns season was the team's 19th season, and 15th season with the National Football League. The Browns won the NFL Championship, despite having not made the playoffs in six seasons.

Leading into the game, the Browns were huge underdogs. Most experts had them losing by double digits. Baltimore was so heavily favored that after the Browns won the game, Sports Illustrated had to scramble to find a picture of a Browns player to put on its cover. Baltimore had the league's best offense and had a league best record of 12-2. They were stacked with future Hall of Famers such as Johnny Unitas, Lenny Moore, and John Mackey. The Browns though, were unfazed by the apparent talent disparity and Jim Brown was reported stating before the game, "we're going to kick their [butt] today." The game-time temperature that day was 34 degrees and felt much colder in 15- to 25-mph winds whipping under gray December sky. The Municipal Stadium crowd of 79,544 was the second largest in NFL title-game history at the time. The Browns knew that if they wanted to be in the game they had to make a statement early on, and they did just that. Galen Fiss, the Browns team captain, broke up a screen pass from Unitas to Moore, sending Moore airborne for a loss. The Browns tenacity on defense is what got them to the half time score of 0-0. Brown's running back Ernie Green reported after the game about half time, "We cleaned ourselves and sat down, and it seemed like something came over all of us. I think we all kind of looked at each other and concluded, 'Hey, we can beat these guys.'" Not only did the Browns "beat" the Colts in the second half, They destroyed them, scoring 27 unanswered points. Gary Collins became a Cleveland Browns legend by catching three touch down passes, the third one being a 51-yarder with Colts defender Bobby Boyd all over him. The biggest story of the game was how well Cleveland's defense played against Baltimore's heralded offense. Cleveland was able to hold Unitas to just 95 yards while intercepting him twice.

New England Patriots 28, Seattle Seahawks 24
MVP: Tom Brady, Quarterback, New England

Super Bowl XLIX was an American football game played to determine the champion of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2014 season. The American Football Conference (AFC) champion New England Patriots defeated the National Football Conference (NFC) champion Seattle Seahawks, 28-24, to earn their fourth Super Bowl title. The game was played on February 1, 2015, at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. It was the second time the stadium has hosted a Super Bowl, and the third one held in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

The Seahawks made their second consecutive appearance in the Super Bowl, having defeated the Denver Broncos, 43-8, in Super Bowl XLVIII, while the Patriots joined the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers as one of the three teams to have made eight appearances in the Super Bowl. For the second straight season, but only the third time in the prior 21 seasons, the number one seeds from both conferences met in the league championship game. Seattle became the first team to appear in consecutive Super Bowls since New England won two straight (XXXVIII and XXXIX).

After the teams were tied 14-14 at halftime, the Seahawks built a ten-point lead to end the third quarter. The Patriots, however, rallied to take a 28-24 lead with roughly two minutes left in the game. Seattle threatened to score in the final moments, driving the ball to New England's 1-yard line. With 26 seconds remaining in the game, they decided to pass the ball in a highly scrutinized play that resulted in Patriots rookie Malcolm Butler making a game-saving interception of Russell Wilson's throw. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was named the game's Most Valuable Player (MVP) after a Super Bowl-record 37 completions on 50 attempts for 328 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.

NBC's broadcast of Super Bowl XLIX is the most watched program in American television history, surpassing the previous year's game. The game was seen by an average of 114.4 million viewers, with it reaching to 118.5 million during the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show featuring Katy Perry, and then peaking to 120.8 million during New England's fourth-quarter comeback.

Super Bowl XLVIII was an American football game between the American Football Conference (AFC) champion Denver Broncos and National Football Conference (NFC) champion Seattle Seahawks to decide the National Football League (NFL) champion for the 2013 season. The Seahawks defeated the Broncos 43-8, the third largest point differential (35) in Super Bowl history, and the largest since Super Bowl XXVII (1993). This became the first Super Bowl victory for the Seahawks and the fifth Super Bowl loss for the Broncos. The game was played on February 2, 2014, at MetLife Stadium at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the first Super Bowl played outdoors in a cold-weather city.

For the first time since Super Bowl XLIV (2010), and just the second time in 20 seasons, the number one seed from each conference met in the league championship. The game also featured the league's top offense (Denver) against the top defense (Seattle), the first time this had occurred since Super Bowl XXXVII (2003).

Seattle built a 22-0 halftime lead, and then a 36-0 advantage before allowing Denver's first score on the final play of the third quarter. The Seahawks defense scored a safety on the first play from scrimmage, the quickest score in Super Bowl history. They also became the first team in a Super Bowl to record a safety and touchdowns off both a kickoff return and an interception return. The Broncos were held to almost 30 points below their scoring average. Five-time NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) Peyton Manning of Denver threw two interceptions in the first half. Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith, who returned one of those interceptions 69-yards for a touchdown, recovered a fumble and made nine tackles, was named Super Bowl MVP.

This was the first Super Bowl with two starting quarterbacks who previously won the big game's MVP award -- and they took turns being brilliant. Manning became the first QB to open a Super Bowl with nine consecutive completions. Later, Brady put together a run of 16 completions in a row, breaking another Super Bowl mark.
But in the end, it was Manning who directed the nine-play, 88-yard drive that put New York ahead when running back Ahmad Bradshaw scored the winning touchdown.

Super Bowl XXV was an American football game between the American Football Conference champion Buffalo Bills and the National Football Conference champion New York Giants to decide the National Football League champion for the 1990 season. The Giants defeated the Bills by the score of 20-19, winning their second ever Super Bowl. It is the only Super Bowl decided by one point.

The game was held at Tampa Stadium in Tampa, Florida, on January 27, 1991, during the height of the Gulf War. It was thus played under much patriotic fervor. The proceedings included a rousing rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" by Whitney Houston during the pregame ceremonies.

Washington Redskins 42, Denver Broncos 10

Super Bowl XXII was an American football game between the National Football Conference champion Washington Redskins and American Football Conference champion Denver Broncos to decide the National Football League champion for the 1987 season. The Redskins defeated the Broncos by the score of 42-10, winning their second ever Super Bowl. The game was played on January 31, 1988 at Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego, California, the first time that the Super Bowl was played in that city.

This Super Bowl came at the end of a season that was shortened by a players' strike. Each team only missed one regular season game due to the labor dispute, but three games were played mostly with replacement players until the dispute was settled. The Broncos were making their second consecutive Super Bowl, and third overall appearance, after posting a 10-4-1 regular season record, largely through the strength of their quarterback John Elway. This would be the last time that a team with a tie in their regular season record would play in a Super Bowl until the 2012 San Francisco 49ers played in Super Bowl XLVII with a 11-4-1 record.

The Redskins, who were making their fourth Super Bowl after posting an 11-4 regular season record, were led by quarterback Doug Williams. After Williams entered the season as a backup, he was promoted to starter midway through the season. After leading Washington to two playoff victories, he became the first African-American quarterback to play in a Super Bowl.

Super Bowl XX was an American football game between the National Football Conference champion Chicago Bears and the American Football Conference champion New England Patriots to decide the National Football League champion for the 1985 season. The Bears defeated the Patriots by the score of 46-10. The game was played on January 26, 1986 at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

To date, it is the most recent Super Bowl where both teams were making their Super Bowl debuts. That phenomenon can only occur again if the Detroit Lions play either the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars or Houston Texans in the Super Bowl. The Bears entered the game after becoming the second team in history to win 15 regular season games. With their then-revolutionary 46 defense, Chicago led the league in several defensive categories, outscored their opponents with a staggering margin of 456-198, and recorded two postseason shutouts. The Patriots were considered a cinderella team during the 1985 season, and posted an 11-5 regular season record, but entered the playoffs as a wild card because of tiebreakers. But defying the odds, New England posted three road playoff wins to advance to Super Bowl XX.

Super Bowl XVII was an American football game between the American Football Conference champion Miami Dolphins and the National Football Conference champion Washington Redskins to decide the National Football League champion for the 1982 season. The Redskins defeated the Dolphins by the score of 27-17 to win their first Super Bowl. The game was played on January 30, 1983 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

This Super Bowl came at the end of a season that was significantly shortened by a players' strike. Teams ended up only playing nine regular season games, and the league conducted a special 16-team, four-round playoff tournament where divisions were ignored in the seeding. The Redskins had an -best 8-1 regular season record, while the Dolphins finished at 7-2. Both teams advanced through the first three postseason rounds to Super Bowl XVII. The game then became a rematch of Super Bowl VII, also played in the Los Angeles area at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum ten years before, where the Dolphins completed their 17-0 perfect season at the Redskins' expense by a score of 14-7. This was also the second Super Bowl to rematch teams, the first being Super Bowl XIII.

The 49ers defeated the Bengals by the score of 26-21 to win their first Super Bowl.

The domed stadium saved the crowd at the game from the very cold and snowy weather, but the weather did affect traffic and other logistical issues related to the game. Super Bowl XVI also became one of the most watched broadcasts in American television history, with more than 85 million viewers, and a final national Nielsen rating of 49.1 (a 73 share).

Both teams were making their first Super Bowl appearance. The 49ers posted a 13-3 regular season record, and playoff wins over the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. The game was played on January 20, 1980, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, and was attended by a Super Bowl record 103,985 spectators.[1][2] It was also the first time that the Super Bowl was coincidentally played in the home market of one of the participants; at the time, the Rams played at nearby Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The Rams became the first team to reach the Super Bowl after posting nine wins or fewer during the regular season. Their 9-7 regular season record was followed by postseason wins over the Dallas Cowboys and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Steelers were the defending Super Bowl XIII champions, and finished the 1979 regular season with a 12-4 record, and posted playoff victories over the Miami Dolphins and the Houston Oilers.

MVP: Lynn Swann, WR, Pittsburgh
Dallas Cowboys 17, Pittsburgh Steelers 21

Super Bowl X was an American football game between the National Football Conference champion Dallas Cowboys and the American Football Conference champion Pittsburgh Steelers to decide the National Football League champion for the 1975 season. The Steelers defeated the Cowboys by the score of 21-17 to win their second consecutive Super Bowl. They are the third team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since Miami Dolphins in Super Bowls VII and VIII, and the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowls I and II.

The game was played at the Orange Bowl[2] in Miami, Florida, on January 18, 1976, one of the first major national events of the United States Bicentennial year. Both the pre-game and halftime show celebrated the Bicentennial, while players on both teams wore special patches on their jerseys with the Bicentennial logo.

Super Bowl X featured a contrast of styles between the Steelers and the Cowboys, which were, at the time, the two most popular teams in the league. Pittsburgh, who dominated teams with their "Steel Curtain" defense and running game, finished the regular season with a league best 12-2 record and defeated the Baltimore Colts and the Oakland Raiders in the playoffs. The Cowboys, with their offense and "flex" defense, became the first wild-card team to advance to the Super Bowl after posting a 10-4 regular season record and postseason victories over the Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Rams.

Super Bowl IV, the fourth AFL-World Championship Game in professional American football, was played on a January 11, 1970, at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana. The American Football League (AFL) champion Kansas City Chiefs defeated the National Football League champion Minnesota Vikings by the score of 23-7. This victory by the AFL squared the Super Bowl series with the at two games apiece. This was also the final AFL-World Championship Game before the two leagues merged into one after the season.

Despite the AFL's New York Jets winning the previous season's Super Bowl, many sports writers and fans thought it was a fluke and continued to believe that the was still superior to the AFL, and thus fully expected the Vikings to defeat the Chiefs; the Vikings entered the Super Bowl as 12.5 to 13-point favorites. Minnesota posted a 12-2 record during the 1969 season before defeating the Cleveland Browns, 27-7, in the 1969 Championship Game. The Chiefs, who previously appeared in the first Super Bowl, finished the 1969 AFL season at 11-3, and defeated the Oakland Raiders, 17-7, in the 1969 AFL Championship Game.

Miami, Florida
MVP: Joe Namath, QB, New York
New York Jets 16, Baltimore Colts 7

Super Bowl III was the third AFL-Championship Game in professional American football, but the first to officially bear the name "Super Bowl."[3] The game, played on January 12, 1969, at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida, is regarded as one of the greatest upsets in American sports history. The heavy underdog American Football League (AFL) champion New York Jets defeated the National Football League champion Baltimore Colts by a score of 16-7.[4] This was the first Super Bowl victory for the AFL.

Entering Super Bowl III, just like the previous two Super Bowls, many sports writers and fans believed that AFL teams did not have the same caliber of talent as clubs, and thus fully expected the Colts to defeat the Jets. Baltimore posted a 13-1 record during the 1968 season before defeating the Cleveland Browns, 34-0, in the 1968 Championship Game. The Jets finished the 1968 AFL season at 11-3, and defeated the Oakland Raiders, 27-23, in the 1968 AFL Championship Game.
